Description
A piece of music consisting of files of the same length, which are triggered simultaneously and play in a loop. The files crossfade from one to another with metric synchronization. The crossfades can occur at any moment depending on the interactivity of the game.
Particularities
- Allows the music to be subtly modified to follow the action of the game, without creating interruptions (i.e.: without creating a stop-and-go effect).
- Unlike the layered loops technique, crossfade loops allow the game engine to save CPU resources by keeping the number of music files playing simultaneously to a minimum.
Considerations
- All files must have the same length (to prevent phase shifting when they loop).
- All files must have the same tempo, the same meter, and the same harmonic progression.
In the example below, the crossfading loop music consists of two audio files. The two audio files will be integrated as follows:
- An ambient track consisting of a melody with an accompaniment of long sustained notes. This music will play only when the player is not in combat mode.
- An intense, pulsing track featuring a maximum number of musical elements. This music will play only when the player is in combat mode.
If you want to integrate your music into a new Wwise project, you must first create a Wwise project and a Work Unit.
To do so, follow the steps on the Create a Wwise Project page.
